Best Chance Media (Best Chance) is an independent “print-on-demand” imprint dedicated to giving up-and-coming writers a chance to see their first book in digital and print formats. Rejection is a good thing at Best Chance.
In most cases, our authors must demonstrate that their submitted manuscript was rejected by at least one and no more than three other agents or publishers within the past year of submittal. We’ve heard some stories have been rejected 60 times.
Best Chance Media is a nonprofit: Best Chance is a project of Boulder Community Media (BCM), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. BCM’s overall philosophy is to create safe spaces through the arts for communities to discuss and resolve critical issues. BCM wants media in all their forms to be accessible to all. Best Chance is most interested in helping authors get their stories told.
Buying Wholesale Copies of Your Book: Authors make the most money selling their books on their own. During the contract negotiation, Best Chance and the author will agree on a retail price that takes into the production costs and account for shipping and other incidental costs, which generally total $1.00 to $2.00 per copy.
When you order through Best Chance Media, we will send an invoice reflecting a 40 percent discount and ship your books upon receipt of payment. You may qualify for PayPal Credit. If your purchase is greater than $300.00, you can spread payments over six months with no interest or fees.
Selling Your Book at Retail: Best Chance is a collaborative effort. Once your book is selected, you can set up a way for your readers to purchase directly from you. Best Chance, through its distribution channels, will handle sales from commercial booksellers.
You will have a Best Chance author page listing your books and linking them to where they can be purchased. Authors earn the most money through their direct sales.
Best Chance will ask you to set up a Business PayPal account through the online dashboard or the PayPal app on your phone. Payments for sales generated by Best Chance that total at least $10.00 will be transferred quarterly. Payments under $10.00 will roll over until the minimum threshold is reached.
PayPal Business Account: As an author now in business, sign up for a PayPal Business account to access commercial features. You’ll be asked to link a bank account and add credit cards to buy stuff. You can apply for PayPal Credit, which is handy for larger purchases over $300.00. PayPal offers a six-month interest-free payment plan, which is beneficial for managing your cash flow. Using a personal PayPal account for business transactions can lead to limitations or incompatible account issues.

- Transaction Types: These are payments for goods and services, ensuring proper transaction handling and author protection.
- Fees: PayPal charges fees for business transactions. Best Chance, as the wholesaler, incurs these fees and has them built into the pricing structure.
- Currency: PayPal supports multiple currencies, which can be useful for international transactions. However, currency conversion fees may apply.
