Best Chance Media Seeks Submissions: Best Chance Media mainly seeks writers who have been rejected by agents or publishers. We only accept submissions for full-length–at least 40,000 words– fiction, nonfiction, and memoir.

Best Chance will likely publish two or three books per year initially and may limit submissions based on volume.

BCM seeks writers who have not been traditionally published. We only accept submissions for full-length–at least 40,000 to 85,000 words (more or less).

Your story still needs to have a good story arc, strong characters, snappy dialogue, and all the elements necessary for telling a great story. It must be developmentally solid. Editing and proofreading will help us both:

– Active Voice: Write in the active voice, meaning replace “was” and “were” with action verbs.

– Redundant Words: Search your document for overused words including: like, just, only, something, about, said, asked, replied, gazed, glanced, looked, and others that you know are a part of your writing.

– Pick a POV: Readers don’t want confusion. Pick a point of view. Jumping around from person to person confuses the reader.

– Pick a Tense: Readers don’t like jumping from the past to present and present to past. Be consistent if you use flashbacks.

Best Chance Media accepts most genres:

  • Fiction: We like fiction but partial to stories set in the past and may incorporate real historical events, people, or settings, but features fictionalized characters, dialogue, and plot details. Regardless, your story should create an authentic sense of a particular time period while telling a made-up “What If?” story that fits within that context.
  • Nonfiction: The story presents accurate accounts of unique past events, people, and places, based on factual evidence and thorough research. We seek stories that describe historical events and explore how areas such as history, philosophy, literature, art, and culture have shaped human society.
  • Memoir: We like memoir, but partial to those woven into history when the writer’s personal story unfolds during or in the context of significant historical events or periods, illustrating how war, migration, civil rights movements, and other historical events shaped their personal journey. The memoir doesn’t just list historical facts, but it brings history to life through the author’s eyes, blending personal feelings with the realities of the time.
  • Poetry: Poetry books don’t fly off the bookshelves. That’s why we like them at Best Chance. Poetry is almost a closed-loop market, which is why rhymes have a home at Best Chance. We build community and poets are an overlooked genre these days.
  • Best Chance does not accept short stories: Collections of stories may work if they are bound together by a theme.
