Discoverability is a significant challenge for independent authors, especially those who face marginalization. Readers are overwhelmed by content, while local voices are drowned out by national marketing and algorithm-driven platforms. Indie bookstores, stretched thin, struggle to champion local talent.

Best Chance Media is working on a solution: the QuillBotics literary cooperative, which unites authors to close the visibility and revenue gap without losing the human touch.

Best Chance Media, a project of Boulder Community Media, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is applying for grants that require matching funds.

Best Chance is contributing its sales earnings to the QuillBotics development. Still, other forward-thinking people who champion the voice of independent authors are an indicator of broad-based community support. We were just awarded a small grant to operationalize QuillBotics and need matching funds. Please donate now!

At its core, QuillBotics is a custom chatbot trained in each author’s voice, designed to “talk” about their books, answer reader questions, share behind-the-scenes insights, and guide users to purchase options. It’s like a tireless, enthusiastic virtual bookseller open 24 hours a day, every day.

A branded chatbot will be embedded into an author’s website, social media, and co-op platforms, benefiting from shared marketing and an expanded reach. In a time when digital platforms depersonalize, Best Chance Media is flipping the script.

Through collaboration and shared innovation, this pilot project develops an efficient and scalable model for book discovery that anticipates the future. The platform is open-source and available to any artist seeking to increase sales.

Best Chance Media seeks to collaborate with coders to help develop this unique distribution and sales pilot project. If you’re interested in learning more, ask Besty Bot
