Kathleen Guler is the author of the award-winning Macsen’s Treasure Series, novels set in fifth-century Arthurian Britain. The series includes A Land Beyond Ravens, winner of the Colorado Book Award in the historical fiction category. The author’s numerous articles, essays, short stories, reviews, and poems have appeared in Eastern Iowa Review, Steamboat Magazine, and Saber and Scroll Journal, among many other publications. She is a member of the Colorado Authors League and the Historical Novel Society. Her fifth novel intertwines a trio of related stories set in different times and places. The author lives in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
This Brief Waking Time: When opium-addicted Late Victorian archaeologist Anna Pražak experiences harrowing dreams of two tragic women from long ago periods, both of whom resemble Anna in spirit and possess gold artifacts matching hers, she is stunned to conclude the visions are memories from former lives elbowing their way out of the distant past and fueling her suicidal tendencies; if so, she must decide to continue—or to break—this cycle of doom. I am also working on what will probably be a novella about three cranky old women trapped together in a snow-bound cabin in 1914 northwest Colorado. They must learn to overcome their mutual distrust, hatred, and mean-spiritedness to learn to live together. Or kill each other.
